“An easy solution with no expensive hardware installation — we rather like that.”
“Nem løsning uden dyre hardware-installationer – det kan vi godt lide.”
The problem
In a hospital setting two different people need to call for help, and they are not the same person with the same problem. A patient needs to reach staff. A member of staff, alone in a room with a situation that has changed, needs to reach a colleague — not an ambulance.
A fixed alarm on the wall answers neither well. It only works if you are next to the wall, and it tells whoever hears it almost nothing about where to go.
What is deployed
Both devices, doing two different jobs. Patients call staff using the BLE button, which is small enough to keep on them and takes one deliberate press rather than finding a cord or a panel.
Staff carry the GPS alarm and use it to call colleagues to them. It works on its own mobile connection with two-way voice built into the device, so a member of staff can be heard as well as located.
The alarm breaks through a silenced phone, which is the difference between a notification and a response.
Why it was a straightforward install
There is no cabling project behind this deployment and no fixed infrastructure to retrofit into a working hospital. That is most of why it happened at the pace it did.
What we are not claiming
ProTechMe is not a monitoring centre and does not dispatch emergency services on a customer’s behalf. In this deployment the responders are the hospital’s own staff.
We publish what is deployed, not response times or outcome statistics.
