Common Questions About Protechme

Protechme general

What is Protechme?

Protechme is a free alarm app with an associated physical panic button that can quickly send an alert to your network in emergency situations. The physical alarm buttons can be attached to jackets, bags, or placed around the house, and with up to 3 years of battery life, they provide passive security. If you activate the alarm via the app or the buttons, everyone in the group receives a loud alarm sound on their phone, even in silent/do not disturb mode. When someone receives the alarm, they get navigation to the location and can always see who can help and how far away they are.

Protechme in more detail

The way it works is that in the app, you can create a “group” with, for example, your family, friends, or neighbors. When you’re in a group together, you can send and receive alarms to and from each other, thereby achieving mutual protection. The alarm goes off whether the phone is on silent or do not disturb mode because we utilize the phone’s critical notifications.

The physical panic buttons, or “Safety Buttons,” can be connected to the app, making it easy to activate the alarm without needing to open the phone. If you press the panic button twice, it sends the alert to the network you have set up in the app.

Moreover, in the app, you can easily choose who in your network should receive the alarm first. So if you have a family member that you want to receive the alarm first, you can set the order under Groups in the app. Protechme is also developed for the Apple Watch, so you can easily alert your network from your wrist.

Our vision is to enhance everyone’s safety through their own network. We achieve this with a simple and intuitive app that quickly provides an overview in emergency situations.

What is a group?

A group can include your friends, family, classmates – the people you want to receive alarms from if they are in danger, and vice versa. When you’re in a group together, you can send and receive alarms to and from each other, thereby achieving mutual protection. The alarm goes off whether the phone is on silent or do not disturb mode because we utilize the phone’s critical notifications.

App Features

Can I choose who in my group receives the alarm first?

If you don’t want to send the alarm to everyone in your network at once, you need to create multiple groups and then prioritize which group receives the alarm first.

How does group prioritization work?
  1. You have the ability to prioritize which group receives your alarm first. You don’t have to send the alarm to all your groups simultaneously. If no one from the first group can assist you, the alarm will automatically be sent to the next prioritized group. Each group has 30 seconds to respond to the alarm before it gets passed on to the next group. You can use this feature if you’d like to have “Plan B” groups that only receive the alarm when your primary helpers can’t assist you.
What can I customize about my alarm?

You can change how your alarm works.

  • Alarm Sound:

    • You can choose from 4 different alarm sounds. This is the sound that will play when you receive an alarm.
  • Sender Sound Notification:

    • If you want to be sure your alarm was sent, you can play a sound on your mobile when you send an alarm.
  • Preset Message Upon Sending:

    • You can write a message that will automatically be sent when you trigger an alarm. For example, messages like “My medication is in the cabinet above the sink.”
How do we communicate with each other during an alarm?
  • Chat Function:
    • The free version of the Protechme app includes a built-in chat function that lets you message each other.
  • Two-Way Voice:
    • Two-way voice communication works like a normal phone call.
  • Preset Messages:
    • You can also send a predefined message automatically along with the alarm.

Setup on Android

1. Initial Screen
  • You’re greeted with “Get Started” or “Log In” (for existing users).
  • Important: Create a new account if it’s a new device. For instance, a family of five should create five separate accounts.
2. User Information:
  • The next screen asks you to enter your name and phone number.
3. Age Confirmation:
  • The third setup page asks if you’re at least 18 years old. Only adults should receive alarms.
4. Email and Password:
  • The fourth setup page requires you to provide your email and password.
  • If you see a message that your email has been used before, you can contact support to delete your old account or use another email address.
5. User Account Setup:
  • The fifth setup page confirms that your user account has been created.
  • The app needs permission for location, notifications, critical notifications, and physical activity.
  • Note: Location access should always be enabled because Protechme uses your location if an alarm is triggered.
6. Location Permission:
  • The sixth setup page asks you to set location permission to “Always.”
  • Important: On Android, also enable “Precise Location.”
7. Retaining Permissions
  • The seventh setup page asks you to allow the app to retain permissions even if it’s not actively used.
  • Do this by disabling “Remove permissions if app isn’t used.”
  • Note: Since Protechme is an emergency app not intended for frequent use, it’s crucial that the phone doesn’t remove these settings automatically.
8. Battery Optimization
  • The eighth setup page addresses battery optimization. Allow the app to use battery in the background.
